Quiet contemplation in a traditional Japanese house

A quiet spot in traditional surroundings is clearly perfect for a bit of equally quiet contemplation.

Japanese traditional contemplation

I hope you haven’t moved from sneaking into abandoned homes to occupied ones! 😉

Thanks a lot. It was a lovely, peaceful place, so good to hear I managed to convey at least some of the atmosphere.

    I am reminded…
The nap out in in a mates bush house in the Australian summer… and a nap on the fragrant tatami in the summer in Fukushima at the inlaw’s. Two great memories of naps. But yay for Japanese country houses and lifestyles. I would easily return to that anytime. At the drop of a hat.

Great pic! The windows in the sliding doors are really interesting to me; I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that before, either on TV or in person. Of course I don’t live there, so my experiences are quite limited. Is this common?

Beautiful, aren’t they? Not too common I think, but I have seen them like that before. Old Japanese houses may well be horribly cold in the winter, but they are wonderful looking things.
